Tribal Upliftment: Role of Government after Independence

Mohd Zia-Ul-Haq Rafaqi

Abstract

The tribal and indigenous peoples of India constitute an important segment of the Indian population. They are duly listed in the Constitution, which also accords them special rights and privileges. Both the Government and the Non-Government Organisations (NGOs) have been engaged in their socio-economic development ever since Independence. This paper provides the brief introduction of the various schemes and policies introduced by the government of India after independence, and their benefits for the tribal population of the country as a whole.
