Abstract

The concepts related to knowledge and thinking in the Qur'an can be listed as, news, vision, foresight, consideration, thinking, feeling, opinion, rememberance, cognition, understanding, fiqh, ingenuity, consciousness, true knowledge. The original view of the Qur'an in terms of science and thinking comes to light only when the conclusive area of these words is clearly explained. Since the beginning, one of the most important issues that Islamic thinkers have been focusing on is the “knowing”. The source of the most valuable data on this subject is the Qur’an. The most famous messages of the Qur'an on this subject are: “Say: Oh, my Lord! Increase my knowledge”. (20/114); “Say: Is it possible anyway that the ones who know are the same with the ones who do not know?” (39/9); “Allah increases the degrees of those who believe and those who are given knowledge”. (58/11); “Among his worshipers, only the ones who have knowledge are afraid of Allah” (35/28). From the perspective of the Qur'an, the biggest enemy of knowing and thinking is to be based on ignorance and presumption. In Sunnah, which is an explanation and application of the Qur'an, it is focused on knowledge and thinking issues and important warnings appear in about avoiding from ignorance and supposition. In this article, the main principles of science and thinking which were put forward by both the Qur'an and Sunnah, were discussed and analyzes on “ignorance and presumption” which are considered as the enemy of these two were carried out. In short, it is reached a conclusion that Islam gives importance to knowledge and thinking and the things which will confront them are wished to be removed.
