Agriculture and Food Security in Senegal: Analysis of Agricultural Policies and Programs from Independence to the Present Day

Abstract


This article aims at analyzing Senegalese’s food security’s agricultural policies and programs from its independence to the present day. The analysis shows weak growth in agricultural production over the period 1961 – 2017. This leads to a decrease in agricultural contribution in fighting against food insecurity. The different agricultural policies application in the creation of value at a national level has a downward trend. From mor than 24 % in 1987, it rose to 18 % in 2016, while other sectors are increasingly productive.
