Abstract

Turkey was compared with European countries in terms of fatal occupational accidents by using Eurostat (European Statistics Institute) and SGK (Turkish Social Security Institution) data and the determining Turkey's position in Europe about occupational health and safety was aimed. In the study, changes in fatal occupational accidents were examined by evaluating the data between 2008 and 2015. Variability coefficient was used as a statistical measure of change. For European countries, a cluster analysis was applied to the data on the proportions of fatal occupational accidents among the total work accidents between 2008 and 2015. In addition, multidimensional scaling analysis was applied to the same data. In the study, the coefficients of variability of the countries subject to the study were calculated taking into account the number of fatal work accidents between 2008 and 2015. The countries with more or less variability were determined and the evaluation of the situation in Turkey was revealed in this context. When the trends of counts of mortal accidents were examined; it was determined that the fatal accidents in countries such as the Netherlands, Greece, Sweden, Germany and Romania were declined over the years. As a result of clustering and multidimensional scaling analysis, it was observed that Romania alone constituted a separate group, Bulgaria, Turkey, Latvia and Lithuania formed a second group and the other European countries created a third group. In this study, Turkey was compared with some European countries on occupational health and safety. Clustering analysis and multidimensional scaling analysis were shown that the European countries could be divided into three groups.
