Utilization of River Flows and Vertical Axis Hydrokinetic Turbines

Mukrimin Sevket Guney, Birkut Guler

Abstract

The reduction of fossil sources of energy and rising energy prices are accelerating the search for alternatives and optimum use of available resources is gaining importance. The mountainous structure of our country and the abundance of the rivers expose the country's hydroelectric energy potential. Energy present in river runoffs or other artificial water channels can be used as a renewable energy source. Hydrokinetic turbines, in particular, are used to produce electricity from the kinetic energy of water flowing in rivers as a good renewable energy alternative in rural areas and in the electrically deprived areas of the country.
