Literature Review on “Weather Index Insurance for Agriculture in Bangladesh: Significance of Implementation and Some Challenges”

In most developing countries like Bangladesh, farmers are very poor and vulnerable. They face a number of natural disasters and challenges during their production time. The affect of unavoidable negative weather could reduce the capacity of production, make farmers unproductive and put them into poverty. To face these challenges, weather index insurance could take a significant role. All stakeholders from insurance companies to government to donor agencies should come forward to protect the source of food, living as well as economy by implementing weather index insurance for farmers though it’s challenging. This paper would focus on the present studies of weather index insurance mainly some basic issues, advantages, relationship with production, role of institutional support, challenges of implementation etc.
