The Essence of the Presidential Election as a Political Education Instrument

Abstract


The principle of people sovereignty in the state’s administration in its implementation is reaffirmed in Article 1 paragraph (2) of the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia. There are 2 (two) basic essentials of regulation of the election of the President as an instrument of political education, first – Facilities to Increase Political Participation can be approached in to some laws such as the 1945 Indonesian Constitution, the Law Number 23 of 2003 concerning the Election of the President and Vice President, the Law No. 42 of 2008 concerning the Election of the President and Vice-President, and The Law No. 7 of 2017 concerning Elections; Second, Realizing Responsible Governance. It means that General election is universally interpreted as an institution as well as a political practice that enables the formation of a legitimate government. Therefore, elections are not only related to the facility for the people to articulate their aspirations and interests, but also become a test tool for the validity of government power. Therefore, the nature of the presidential election arrangement is as a facility of increasing citizens' literacy and political awareness. Therefore, they can actively raise awareness and participation of the people's politics and create a responsible government as a constitutional mandate.
