Regression Analysis for Predicting the Corrosion Extent of Brass and Aluminum

John I. Sodiki, Morrison V. Ndor, Asitonka Sodiki

Abstract

In view of the broad areas of application of brass and aluminum, several studies have been done on the corrosion-time behaviour of the two metals and the application of statistical methods in such studies is also of interest to researchers. As a further contribution, the present study applies regression analysis to predict the corrosion extent with time for specific compositions of the test metals in the laboratory atmosphere and 0.1M solutions of sodium chloride, ammonium hydroxide and hydrochloric acid. The resulting regression equations show good correlation with the experimental data, hence indicating the applicability of the equations within the limits of experimental parameters employed.
