The Examining of Hole Profile for Drilling Micro-Size Deep Holes with Electro Discharge Machining

Volkan Yilmaz, Mustafa Ozdemir, Hakan Dilipak

Abstract

In the study, AISI 1040 materials are drilled with micro-size deep holes with electro discharge machining under different processing parameters. Within this scope, experiments are carried out with three different discharge current (6, 12, 24A), three different electrode rotational speed (200, 400, 600 r / min), three different dielectric spray pressures (40, 80, 120 bar) and stable pulse interval (3 microseconds (µs)) performed. It is ascertained that the hole profiles after the tests are directly related with the working parameters, and that the average radial overcut (ARO) with the increase of the discharge current, the electrode rotation speed and the dielectric injection pressure increases, the dimensional error (DE) values of the hole with the increase of the discharge current and the electrode rotational speed increases and decreases with the increase of the dielectric spray pressure.
