Investigation of Cryptosporidium infection in Lambs and Goat Kids at Al-kut city,wasit province.

Abstract


A total of 150 fecal samples of equines from different regions in al kut city, were collected from September 2016 to July 2017and examined for Cryptosporidium infection with Sheather’s flotation technique and Modified Ziehl-Neelsen Staining. Accordingly, the overall prevalence was found to be 35%. The prevalence of 46% (46/100) in lambs ,14%  (7/50) goat kids were recorded. There was a significant difference (P < 0.05) in the prevalence of cryptosporidiosis between diarrheic and non-diarrheic animals. There was statistically significant variation (P < 0.05) observed in the prevalence of Cryptosporidium infection between animal species. In conclusion, this study demonstrated the importance of Cryptosporidium in young ruminants with a higher prevalence among diarrheic animals than non diarrheic.
