An Example of ‘Character Education’ Course Design in the Light of ‘Experienced Centred’ Design for Higher Education

Abstract


The purpose of this study is to design the course ‘Character Education’ in the light of the ‘experienced centred’ design and to assert an example of ‘Character Education’ course design for higher education students. The research was conducted during the 2015-2016 spring semester as an action research.  The participants consisted of 36 higher education students on the basis of the criterion sampling and convenience sampling methods. The data was collected throughout the course via open-ended questionnaire, interviews, and observation. Descriptive and content qualitative analyses were conducted. On the basis of the results of the data analysis, the purposes of the course were gathered under three main goals, the content of the course comprised of theoretical knowledge of and practice in character education, various methods and techniques, especially film and discussion, were used. The results of the assessment and evaluation part indicated that the course was effective and the students attained the goals of the course.
